My Favorite Children’s Devotionals

Have you ever heard the song “Read your Bible Pray Everyday”? It goes like this:

Read your Bible pray everyday, pray everyday, pray everyday. Read your Bible pray everyday and you’ll grow grow, grow…..Neglect your Bible forget to pray and you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink.

It’s such a fun song for youngsters to sing in Sunday School class, but it is so true for everyone….even if you’re 99 years old!

We know as adults we are only as strong as our devotional life. When we haven’t spent time in the Word, we are unequipped to face the challenges and temptations of the day, and we SHRINK SHRINK SHRINK!

Even though most of our children don’t face the evils we face in our current day to day living, private devotional time is so important for children to establish in their youth. The sooner they develop a daily routine for spending time alone with Jesus, the easier it will be to be faithful to carving time out of their busy days for reading their Bible (or devotional) and for prayer.

Children need to understand that their source of spiritual strength is found on their knees. They too face temptations, such as the temptation to get even, or tell a fib, or steal a cookie from the cookie jar. Learning to go to God for their strength will help train their tender hearts to run to Jesus and resist evil, so when those teen years hit, they will be rooted and grounded in the Word of God.

Below is a list of 4 of my favorite devotional books for children!!

  1. His Little Princess

Little girls love fairy tales about the world of princesses, but never have the hope of becoming a princess themselves. This hardback devotional helps young girls see their true value and worth in being a chosen Princess of the King! The daily devotionals are written as letters to them from their King

2.) The Princess Parables Series

This hardback series is more in story format, making them appealing to young readers, but teaches young girls they can trust God no matter what. They are built on the parables of Jesus, each book teaching a valuable lesson to build up good Christian character.

4.) The Action Bible

This book makes the Bible come to life! It helps children captivate the emotion of the events of the Bible, while teaching them the truths found in God’s word. This is a good book for those children who struggle with comprehending the Bible while reading on their own.
